Kathryn Amaker | President
Hello, my name is Kathryn Cobb-Holmes. I am recently married to my husband Bernard. I am a mother of two beautiful girls, stepmother to another daughter and grandparent to six wonderful children. I was delighted to be asked to join the Threads of Change Board because I work with many Foster and Adoptive families in my line of work. First the past 15 years I have worked in the Head Start program serving children and families in the Berks County area as a Family Engagement Supervisor. We enroll low income families that cannot afford childcare. Our goal is to help families reach self- sufficiency through our comprehensive services. I have a dual Masters degree from Alvernia University in Behavioral Science and Psychology. I chair the Reading Human Relations Commission Board of Directors. I am willing to help families with my knowledge of the Social Services in our area.
Trish Beltz | Vice President
I’ve worked in the human service field for over seventeen years dealing with children’s mental health, foster care, and juvenile probation for the children and youth services. I have a strong passion for helping children, so not only do I participate on the board of directors for Threads of Change Berks, but I am also servicing on the Berks County Youth Aid Panel. My husband an I became foster parents in March of 2014 and adopted our beautiful daughter in December 2016. Our puzzle is complete!! I look forward to serving on the board and being involved with Threads of Change Berks.
Andrea Bernet | Secretary
I am a mother (of two), a girl friend, a career women, and a full-time student.
Being involved with Threads has really opened my eyes to the need of the foster community that I was not even aware existed. This experience has really been opened my eyes to so many aspects of the world and how much a team of people can do to help others when the need is there. It has truly been a great experience and honor to serve on Threads board of directors and help create their website.

I am new to Threads of Change and the fostering process as a whole. My husband and I are in the process of completing our courses through BCCYS to become a licensed foster family, with the goal of loving children and growing our family. I am originally from Lehigh Valley and I have more than 30 cousins. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Lock Haven University and two Master’s degrees, one in Social Work and one in Public Health, from Temple University. I have worked at Penn State University, Berks Campus since 2013 in Residence Life and now Campus Life as the Assistant Director of Community Development coordinating new student programs, service learning, and leadership development. In my spare time, I enjoy camping, visiting amusement parks, brewery hopping, painting and all things Disney.
Carol Rentschler, LSW | Community Representative
I am a wife, a mother (of two), and a nana (of six). A great deal of our family’s summer is spent at the beach: my happy place. I have been employed by Berks County Children and Youth Services for seventeen years. Currently, I license foster families and help them navigate the child welfare system and deal with the emotional roller coaster of being a foster parent. I am a graduate of Reading Area Community College, Alvernia University where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a graduate of Marywood University where I received a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I am also a Licensed Social Worker for the State of Pennsylvania.
