About Us

Threads of Change’s mission is to facilitate positive change to children in the foster care system by providing personal necessities during a time of crisis in their lives.

Threads of Change’s vision aims to fulfill all requests they receive, from any child/foster family who is willing to travel to their location in Berks County and the surrounding area. By providing these basic material needs, we envision a child’s development of self worth and confidence, therefore impacting and changing their world through love, patience, and understanding.

Threads Of Change is a 100% volunteer run organization founded by a group of foster parents.

We aspire to make a difference in the lives of Foster Children and Foster Parents. We believe that there is much that needs to change in the Foster Care system.

We believe that sometimes you need to “Be The Change” that you want to see in the world.

We believe that the things we give to children convey a message about their worth. We believe that by inviting Foster Children to shop for items that are in good condition, that they get to choose themselves, that belong to them and that are theirs to keep we send the message that these children are valued and cared about.

Decisions at Threads are made by a Board of Directors.  We also have an amazing administrative team who are presently or has been, a Foster Parent.  We also seek the input of former Foster Youth in our decision making. Learn more about our Board of Directors and our Administrative Team.

InclusivityThreads of Change welcomes all individuals regardless of culture, race, gender, age, ethnicity, religious preference, and sexual identity to be involved in our program and benefit from our shared resources. We strive to treat all of our beneficiaries with dignity and respect regardless of background and situation in meeting their immediate, tangible needs.

SupportThreads of Change values all foster parents, caseworkers, and children in foster care. We provide a supportive community that addresses the emotional and physical needs of the children in foster care as well as their caregivers to facilitate a smooth transition in the foster care environment. We aim to ensure that those who utilize Threads of Change are shown love from a community who wish to support their journey and well being.

Volunteerism/ServiceThreads of Change is built upon and relies on our community volunteers and donors who desire to make a difference in a child’s life. We openly welcome and support our volunteers, and we desire to develop meaningful relationships between volunteers and beneficiaries as we serve our local communities.

SocializationThreads of Change realizes that children in foster care are often anxious, scared, and feel isolated, and lose their self identity in times of crisis. We desire to provide an atmosphere that promotes social engagement opportunities for foster parents and children in foster care to interact with others who are in a similar position.
